Tartans History By Scottish Kilt Jacket

The ancient Celts, who inhabited what is now Scotland, Ireland, and portions of Northern Europe, are the source of tartan patterns. The Celts were expert weavers who produced a wide range of textiles and clothes out of wool. The Celts probably invented the first tartan designs to identify various clans and households.
Tartan designs have come to be identified with the clans that inhabited the Scottish Highlands over time. Every clan possessed a distinct tartan design for clothing and other objects. For the clans, the tartan design grew to represent pride and identity, and it is still a significant aspect of Scottish culture today.
